The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim. Despite the victory, the Astros fell short of making the postseason. Their season concludes.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Astros got on the board first as Yainer Diaz delivered an RBI single. That run was answered by the Angels, as Mike Trout homered yet again, this time off Lance McCullers Jr. it was 1-1 after one.
The game remained 1-1 until the fifth. In that framed Houston broke things open. Diaz, Ramon Urias, and Brice Matthews all homered in a four-run inning that gave the Astros a 5-1 lead. They added a sixth the following inning to take a five-run lead.
Despite the strong effort, Houston knew their playoff chances were already over. Wins by the Tigers and Guardians yesterday officially eliminated them from postseason contention.
Down the stretch, the Astros pitching staff was able to keep the Angels off of the scoreboard until the ninth. The Angels added a run, but that was all. They held on for a 6-1 victory to finish the season 87-75.
