The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns have made it a habit of going to NCAA Regionals under coach Matt Deggs. They have now been three straight times, with last year being the closest they have come to advancing. This year’s team has a mix of returners and newcomers, and wants to be the first in Deggs’ tenure to make a run at Omaha.
Head Coach: Matt Deggs (6th Year)
2024 Record: 42-20 (23-7 SBC)
2024 Postseason Result: Lost in Regional Final
2025 Preseason Ranking: 3rd in SBC
OVER THE HUMP?
The Cajuns have built on their success nearly every season under Coach Deggs. After making Regionals in the two years prior, last year’s team took it a step further and made the Regional Final. The goals, however, are loftier than that. This program has dreams of returning to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time since 2000. If they are going to accomplish that, the 2025 group will have to prove to be special in more ways than one.
NOT YOUR DAD’S SUN BELT
The Sun Belt Conference has been improving for a long time in baseball. Now, it has made a habit of consistently putting multiple teams into the Regionals. It is no longer a “one-bid league,” which is no doubt a good thing for the Cajuns.
However, that means that the competition will be stiff. Troy, Southern Miss, Coastal Carolina, and a few dark horse teams look to challenge Louisiana for the league crown this year.
ALL-AMERICAN RETURN
The Cajuns had three players earn All-American honors last season. Kyle Debarge, LP Langevin, and Chase Morgan all were represented and now have banners hanging at The Tigue.
Morgan, however, is the lone player from that list to be back. He will get the ball on Friday night, opening the season as the Cajuns’ Friday night starter. Their success this year will likely have a lot to do with how well the talented lefty fares in the opener of each series.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns begin their 2025 season on Friday night at 6:00 PM inside Russo Park when the welcome in the San Jose State Spartans.
