Big Sixth Inning Pushes Astros Past Giants In Rubber Match

The Houston Astros turned the page after a tough extra-innings loss on Tuesday and took the rubber match behind a solid outing from Zack Grienke as well as a four-run sixth that propelled them past the San Francisco Giants.

How It Happened:

Things didn’t look great for Houston at the outset of the contest with a leadoff triple from Mike Yastrzemski followed up by an RBI single from Alex Dickerson. However, that was all the Giants could muster with Grienke sitting down the next three batters.

The Astros did get on the board in the bottom of the fifth with Alex Bregman connecting on a line drive for an RBI single, scoring George Springer. The big sixth inning started with Carlos Correa scoring off of a wild pitch and was followed up by a towering three-run bomb out to left-center from Martin Maldonado quickly made it a 5-1 lead over the Giants.

Player of the Game: Zack Grienke

Grienke had struggled in his first couple of starts of the shortened 2020 season, but was able to right the ship on Wednesday night after allowing an early run. The veteran went six and a third allowing that lone run and struck out seven on the way to his first win of the season.

Next Up: Friday at Seattle; First Pitch at 8:10 pm
