A big third inning by the Ole Miss Rebels put the Cajuns behind the eight-ball and that was a big reason for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns 29-game win streak being snapped and forcing a game seven in the Oxford Regional.
How It Happened:
The Rebels started things off with a leadoff double, but Summer Ellyson did her typical thing and got out of the early trouble. However, Ole Miss was able to figure out the Cajuns ace when Mikayla Allee blasted one out to left field in the top of the third.
Ole Miss then put up four more runs in the inning, capped off by a two-run triple from Kaylee Horton. The Cajuns did get on the board in the bottom frame after a fielding error by the Rebels first baseman, but that was all the Cajuns could muster thanks to a solid performance from Molly Jacobson.
Big Number: 4
It’s not often that the Cajuns use more than one pitcher in a ballgame, especially with Summer Ellyson typically being on fire when she’s in the circle. However, the Cajuns decided to unload the bullpen after Ole Miss got out to a 2-0 lead and used four pitchers to save Ellyson for that winner-take-all game.
Player of the Game: Molly Jacobson
Jacobson had nerves of steel with the Cajuns getting several opportunities to cut into the Rebels lead, and was able to force the game seven by striking out eight Cajuns.
