Cabrera, Duplantis Powers LSU Past UL Monroe

Posted by clintdomingue on February 16, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

What a way to start off the season for LSU (1-0). After getting down 3-0 early on against UL Monroe (0-1) on Friday, the Tigers bats came alive, resulting in a 12-7 win.

How It Happened:

2019 started off rough for Zack Hess, allowing an RBI single by Trent Tinglestad followed up by a two-run bomb by Chad Bell to give the Warhawks an early edge. Daniel Cabrera quickly got LSU back in it with a two-run single in the bottom of the first to get them back within one.

UL Monroe was able to hold off the Tigers long enough to increase their lead thanks to a solo shot from Tinglestad and an RBI single from Andrew Beesley in the third. However, Cabrera got a hold of one and blasted a two-run bomb out to right field in the bottom of the third. He then went oppo in the bottom of the sixth to tie things up.

Antoine Duplantis put LSU out in front with a two-run bomb of his own to right field. UL Monroe tried to get back into it with a two-run single by Ryan Humeniuk in the eighth, but Duplantis slammed that door shut with a grand slam in the bottom frame to seal the deal.

Big Number: 11

LSU put up 12 runs on the night, but you can account 11 of those off the bats of Duplantis and Cabrera. Just an impressive offensive output from these two.

Players of the Game: Antoine Duplantis & Daniel Cabrera

How can it not be two guys who went a combined 5-of-9 with 11 RBIs and four home runs? Amazing outing for the Tigers.

Next Up: Saturday vs Air Force; First Pitch at 2 pm
