The Ragin’ Cajuns coaching staff has picked up commitments from top prep baseball recruits like Todd Light and Oliver Campbell for the 2016 class. Coach Robichaux and his staff recently landed another highly ranked prep athlete from Texas, Kingwood High School corner infielder Eric Monroe Moll. Moll was named first-team all-district after hitting over .400 in district play this past season. The (6’1,230) senior played with Texas Marucci Team this past summer and he also graded out as a 9 with Perfect Game at the South Underclass and WWBA last summer. He is currently listed by Perfect Game as a 2015 Underclass High Honorable Mention All American and All Region. Eric Moll spoke to the Cajun Redzone Thursday night about his commitment to the Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball program.
“I was familiar with them because I have family that lives in Baton Rouge and in Lafayette,” Moll explained. “I lived in the area for a while and I knew that ULL was a very good baseball program. One of coached with Marucci played at ULL and knows the program well and he played a huge role in helping talk to the staff.“
“Coach Talbot came to watch me play in a showcase in Houston and he offered me,” Eric stated. “ Once I decided to commit, I called Coach Robichaux and gave him the news. Coach was happy that I committed to the Ragin’ Cajuns and we talked about the program, academics and the expectations playing in the program. Coach Robichaux is a great guy and I really excited about playing for him at ULL.
The Cajuns jumped on Eric Moll early in the process while other schools were still evaluating him and wanted to see him play this fall in camps. Instead of waiting on some other top programs, Moll decided to commit to the top program that wanted him now, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
“I had received letters and spoken to coaches from Rice, Houston, Virginia and Miami,” Eric said. “They wanted to come to camps and they said they would continue to evaluate me this fall in showcases. But I knew the Ragin’ Cajuns are a top program and that is where I want to play college baseball. They’ve had a lot of players drafted and I want a shot at playing in the major leagues. I’m going to sign during the early signing period; I’m not going to wait until spring. I’m coming down to ULL to take my official visit either September 12th or 13th.”
While Eric Moll plans to sign with the Cajuns during the early signing period, that will not be the extent of his plans for the fall.
“I’ve been invited to play for the Yankees high school scout team in Jupiter Florida,” Moll explained. “There will be a number of scout teams there from Atlanta, Boston and other organizations. I will also play for Dodgers Texas high school scout team later in the spring, made up of some of top prep players in Texas. We will play against some of the college teams playing in the Minute Maid Classic in Houston. Both of those are invitation MLB high school camps only.”
Eric Monroe Moll now joins Todd Light R-R (6’4,220) OF Coast, Florida, Oliver Campbell LHP (5’9,165) Neville High, Josh Aguilar L/R (5’10,210) Catcher Bishop Lynch, Dallas and Tremaine Spears R/R (5’11,190) OF Tioga High and Caleb Armstrong (6’0,180)INF/RHP Ouachita HS in the 2016 recruiting class.
