This weekend’s series was a big one for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (27-17-1, 13-7-1 Sun Belt) as they headed into UT Arlington (26-17, 16-5 Sun Belt) with all kinds of momentum after a win over Texas on Tuesday.
After a series sweep by UT Arlington, the Cajuns are looking towards what’s next.
Those crooked numbers kept coming up for the Mavericks on Sunday as they put up two runs in the first inning of game one of the doubleheader capped off by an RBI single from Will Olson. The offensive onslaught continued with UT Arlington getting four more runs across in the fifth.
The Cajuns finally got on the board in game one with Alex Pinero hitting a three-run triple to right center field in the sixth. However, that wasn’t enough to start a rally as the Mavericks got three more across in the bottom half of the inning to win 9-3.
Hogan Harris dropped to 4-1 on the year allowing six runs off of four hits. The sophomore walked two and struck out five in four and two-thirds of an inning of work.
It was more of the same in game two of the twinbill with UT Arlington getting four runs in the third highlighted by a two run double from RJ Williams.
Pinero struck again with a two-run blast in the sixth to cut the Mavericks lead in half, but much like the first game, they were unable to capitalize. In the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings the Mavericks put up two runs to complete the series sweep with a 10-2 victory.
Gunner Leger dropped to 8-2 allowing four runs off six hits in two and two-thirds.
The Cajuns will have a bit of break from midweek baseball before returning to Russo Park to take on Georgia Southern (30-15, 13-8 Sun Belt) with first pitch on Friday set for 6 pm.
