The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (28-5, 11-0 Sun Belt) continued to roll in conference play on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the doubleheader against Troy (16-24, 4-11 Sun Belt).
In the first game the Trojans took the lead with a solo shot from Becca Hartley in the top of the third. However, the Cajuns tied it up in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Daniella Chavez.
The fifth inning saw the Cajuns take the lead with back to back home runs from Haley Hayden and Aleah Craighton and that would be enough to come away with a 3-1 victory in the first game.
Alyssa Denham improved to 11-1 allowing one run off four hits, walked one, and struck out five in seven innings of work.
The first inning f*or the Cajuns started off strong with four runs off of five hits starting off with a triple from Kara Gremillion. This was a driving force for the Cajuns as they got a total of 12 hits in the second game.
“I thought early that our bats were good, we just never strung anything together.” Lotief said of the Cajuns hitting on Saturday. “Once you string things together and you energize this crowd, the momentum takes off and it becomes fun.”
Craighton increased the Cajuns lead with her second home run of the day in the second to make it 6-0.
The Cajuns finished it off in the third with a solo shot from Corin Voinche and a grand slam from DJ Sanders to give the Cajuns an 11-0 victory in five innings.
Alex Stewart improved to 13-3 on the year throwing three shutout innings, walked one and struck out five in three innings of work.
The Cajuns will look to sweep the series and match their best Sun Belt Conference start since 2005 on Sunday with first pitch set for 12 pm.
