Despite an attempt at a rally in the bottom of the sixth, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (28-18. 14-8-1 Sun Belt) came up short against Georgia Southern (31-16, 14-9 Sun Belt) on Saturday night.
The Eagles looked to be off to a strong start in the third with Jordan Wren leading things off with a double. Steven Curry followed that up with an RBI single to get on the board. Ryan Cleveland sent one sailing out toward the Cajuns track facility later in the inning to make it 3-0.
The lead wouldn’t last long as Steven Sensley tied things up in the bottom of the third with a three-run bomb into the pine trees out in left field. However, Georgia Southern put up another three run inning in the sixth highlighted by a two-run single from Tyler Martin.
The Cajuns tried to get back in it in the bottom of the sixth with Brenn Conrad hitting an RBI single and a throwing error from the pitcher got them within one run. That one run was the difference after Antchak was 90 feet away in the bottom of the ninth and Josh Aguilar struck out swinging to give Georgia Southern the 6-5 victory.
Colten Schmidt dropped to 1-1 on the year allowing four runs off of six hits, walked one, and struck out three in five innings of work.
The Cajuns will look to win the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch set for 12 pm.
