The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (14-11, 4-7 Sun Belt) looked to try and avoid losing a fourth straight game in conference play. It was not to be as the Troy Trojans (13-12, 5-6 Sun Belt) fired back in a big way in the second half to come away with a 100-88 win.
Troy got in the driver’s seat early in the first half, getting out to a 9-4 lead with 15:38 left in the first half. They were able to get out to a double digit lead, but the Cajuns quickly responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead in half.
The Cajuns continue to roar back late in the first half getting it down to one point before a late shot from Hollimon made it 42-39 as both teams headed into the locker room.
The Cajuns would finally get back in the lead early on in the second half and would control the game through the early part of the second half. However, a number of personal fouls for the Cajuns would give the Trojans the lead right back with a 20-2 run over the course of 4:15 would give them a 75-58 lead with 8:29 remaining in regulation.
The Cajuns would start to rally back in the final four minutes with a 13-3 run to cut it down to single digits with 1:38 left.
The Cajuns will play in the Cajundome on Monday night when they take on South Alabama (12-12, 5-6 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 7 pm.
By the Numbers:
25: Number of personal fouls in the second half for the Cajuns. This includes a double-technical for head coach Bob Marlin in the second half. However, it would be a case of too little too late
26: Number of points off the bench by the Trojans. It was a testament to the amount of depth they had in the bench to lead them to victory
58: Jay Wright’s three-point percentage. The Cajuns desperately needed someone to step up the way he did on Saturday night as he was one of three players that made at least one three-pointer
