Louisiana began its path to Oklahoma City tonight in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Softball Championships against ULM at Lamson Park. Jourdyn Campbell hit an RBI triple and Sam Landry was excellent in the circle as Louisiana advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over ULM.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana struck first blood in the contest when Laney Creduer got an RBI single through the middle of the infield to bring home Mihyia Davis with two outs to give the Cajuns the 1-0 advantage.
The Warhawks wouldn’t stay down for long though, as Ashland Ard laced an RBI double to right field to bring in a run and tie the game. The next batter hit a fluke bounce that stayed inside the baseline and was able to beat out the throw to put runners at the corner for Monroe.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jourdyn Campbell pinch hit for Victoria Valdez and delivered an RBI triple to the right field wall to bring Maddie Hayden in to score and make it a 2-1 lead for Louisiana. Stormy Kotzelnick then came into the contest and hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Campbell and make it 3-1.
Sam Landry came out for the seventh and was able to shut the door on the Warhawks, sealing the victory and bringing Louisiana into the semifinals.
