The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns opened up the 2023 season with a 12-0 mercy rule win over Lafayette College during the opening day of the 37th Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After Sam Landry struck out the side to start the game, the Ragin’ Cajuns’ bats caught fire in the bottom frame.

Mihyia Davis drew a leadoff walk and then scored on a single by Maddie Hayden. Alexa Langeliers blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall and two batters later, Sophie Piskos hit a towering two-run blast over left-centerfield.

Louisiana batted through the lineup scoring eight runs on eight hits in the opening frame.

After not plating any runs in the second inning, the Ragin’ Cajuns added four more runs in the bottom third highlighted by a three-run double by Jourdyn Campbell.

That proved to be plenty of runs as the Leopards were held hitless for five innings.

BIG NUMBER: 13
Sam Landry struck out 13 Lafayette College hitters in Friday’s season-opening victory. Landry struck out the side three times.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: SAM LANDRY & JOURDYN CAMPBELL
Landry threw a no-hitter while striking out 13 batters in the victory and her lone miscue was a hit batter in the fifth. Campbell meanwhile went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI with a single and a double.
