The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team fell to the Bowling Green Falcons 82-67 on Monday night inside the Cajundome. The game was a part of the SBC-MAC Challenge and officially opened the season for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With an entirely new roster for Louisiana, this game was one of many firsts. Louisiana grabbed the first lead, with Sierra Jones and Jazmyne Jackson both grabbing their first buckets as Ragin’ Cajuns.
The Cajuns would maintain their lead throughout the first quarter. A nice stretch from true freshman Amijah Price helped with that, and Louisiana led 20-16 after one quarter.
In the second period, Bowling Green was able to take their first lead of the game. Preseason All-MAC selection Paige Kohler paced the way, and they took their first lead at 26-23 after a made three by Jasmine Fearne. Down the stretch in the half, Louisiana was able to tie the game, but the Falcons got the last bucket of the half to take a 39-37 lead into intermission.
The second half was all about the Falcons. They opened on a 9-0 run, taking the first double-digit lead of the game. From there, the Cajuns struggled to make up ground, trading baskets for the rest of the third quarter. By the end of the period, Bowling Green led 63-50.
The chances of a comeback were thwarted by Kohler and company. She led the way in the fourth, and the lead grew to 20 points at one point. The Cajuns did put a 9-0 run together to make one last effort, but the Falcons held on for the 82-67 win.
