
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team fell to the Texas State Bobcats 69-58 on Wednesday evening inside Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas. The loss drops the Cajuns to 8-7 in SBC play and keeps them at sixth place in the standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana struggled offensively in the early going, as they missed nine of their first 10 field goals. Texas State took advantage of Louisiana turnovers and built a solid advantage early on. Cajuns’ free throws kept them within striking distance, but it was still an 18-9 lead for the Bobcats at the half.
The Cajuns started the second quarter on a 9-0 run to tie things at 18. Leading scorer Erica Lafayette got things going, including hitting Louisiana’s first three of their night. However, Texas State had a response and again stretched the lead back out to three possessions. The Cajuns did get the last points of the quarter, and got the lead down to five at the half at 36-31.
Louisiana patiently worked their way back into things in quarter number three. With a few minutes left in the quarter, they finally took their first lead of the game. However, the Bobcats retook the lead and held a one-point advantage at 51-50 heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter saw Texas State extend their lead back to six after a 6-1 run to begin the period. The Cajuns battled back again, and at one point had the lead down to two again at 57-55. However, Jaylin Foster led the Bobcats down the stretch as they closed the game on a 12-3 run. Texas State held on 69-58.
BIG NUMBER: 22
Texas State ended up with 22 points off turnovers. After surrendering only eight turnovers in the matchup a week ago, UL had 19 and they were costly in this one.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jaylin Foster
Foster led the way for Texas State with 19 points and eight rebounds. After the Cajuns held her in check a week ago, the team’s leading scorer showed up in a big way in this one.
