The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the South Alabama Jaguars 31-22 on Saturday in Mobile. The win improves Louisiana to 3-6 and keeps their hopes of gaining bowl eligibility alive.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game began with the Cajuns getting a stop. Then, they executed well on their first drive, scoring a touchdown. It was Lunch Winfield finding Shelton Sampson Jr for the touchdown to make it 7-0.

Another defensive stop led to a Cajuns scoring-drive. This time, it was just a field goal. Tony Sterner converted, making it 10-0 Louisiana.

South Alabama put together their best drive after that, going 16 plays and 84 yards for a touchdown. Keenan Phillips punched it in to make it 10-7.

Louisiana would score twice on each of their final two drives before the half. First, Zylan Perry scored an 18-yard touchdown to cap a 75 yard drive. Then, right before the half ended, Winfield found Sampson Jr in the back of the end zone for another score that extended the lead to 24-7 at halftime.

To start the second half, the Cajuns marched down and extended their lead once more. This time, Winfield scored on a keeper to make it 31-7.

South Alabama would battle back. Bishop Davenport scored from five yards out to make it 31-14. Then, the Jaguars took advantage of a missed field goal. That scored a 64 yard touchdown on the first play of the next drive on a pass to Jeremy Scott. They went for two and made it 31-22.

Down the stretch, the Jaguars drove down but were turned away at the goal line. Then, on their final possession, Jaden Dugger secured an interception to clinch the game for Louisiana.

BIG NUMBER: 93

Completing 14 of his 15 passes, Lunch Winfield set a new single-game record for completion percentage for the Cajuns.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Lunch Winfield

Winfield was 14-15 for 232 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Additionally, he ran 15 times for 45 yards and another touchdown.

UP NEXT: The Cajuns return home to host Texas State at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium on Saturday, November 8th at 4:00 PM.
