Following a close loss Thursday night, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team bounced back Saturday afternoon in a big 68-57 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Cajuns guard Destiny Rice opened up the game with a layup, but Arkansas State went up 11-4 in the first half of the first quarter. Each of the Red Wolves starters contributed with a bucket in that time.

Coming out of a timeout, the Ragin’ Cajuns were on a roll and finished the rest of the first quarter with a 14-5 run. The run was highlighted by a couple of buckets from Ty Doucet and a buzz-beater corner three pointer from Diamond Morrison to give Louisiana the 18-16 lead to end the period.

The Cajuns would extend their lead early in the second, courtesy of Morrison and Makaiya Hallmon getting into the paint. There was a loose ball in transition, but Tamera Johnson picked the ball up and got an easy layup to give her squad the seven point lead.

Louisiana went into halftime with the 30-25 lead after a shot clock beating jumper by Douet and free throws made by Morgan Wallace and Jireh Washington.

The Cajuns came out firing to start the second half as they made their first three shots and made five out of six attempts by the 5:34 mark of the third quarter.

The rest of the period was a bunch of back-and-forth scoring as Louisiana led by 10. Arkansas State’s Jade Upshaw, in that time, knocked down three three pointers for her team.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Cajuns extended their lead, thanks to a couple baskets by Johnson and Rice getting an easy layup on the fast-break.

Louisiana cruised the rest of the quarter and maintained a healthy lead throughout as the Ragin’ Cajuns bounced back to defeat the Red Wolves 68-57.

BIG NUMBER: 52.7

The Cajuns women’s team as a whole shot 52.7 percent from the floor as they cruised past Arkansas State 68-56 Saturday afternoon.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Ty Doucet

Ty Doucet had another double-double in this game as she scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, including a couple on the offensive end.

UP NEXT: Louisiana (13-5 , SBC 5-3 ) returns to action on Thursday when they travel to play Texas State. Tip is set for 7pm.
