The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns will be on the plains of Oklahoma next week for the NCAA Regionals hosted by the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Cajuns will be the 12th seed in the Norman Regional, which will be held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club at the Univesity of Olakhoma.
Theo Sliman’s team will be joined by top-ranked Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Duke, LSU, Colorado, and Kansas as the big-name programs.
“It’s really exciting to see your name get called out on the Golf Channel,” said Sliman at the watch party held at Oakbourne Country Club, Louisiana’s home course. “It’s been a whirlwind since we won the (Sun Belt) conference. You know you have support, but when you do something of this magnitude, you realize why all the phone calls and text messages…I have to thank Cajun Nation because this has been really overwhelming.”
This is the first regional appearance for the Cajuns since 2012 when they appeared in the Greensboro Regional. The Sun Belt championship won last week was the first since 2007 and just the fourth in the program’s history.
Louisiana’s quest for the NCAA Tournament will begin on Monday, May 15 in Norman. Out of the 14-team field, the top five teams will advance to the tournament.
