The Ragin Cajuns were able to split the twinbill Saturday night against UT Arlington (23-21, 9-11 SBC) with a seventh inning rally to win 6-4.
The Cajuns struck early and often in the top of the first, starting with Kyle Clement getting the first run with a groundout to the second baseman that allowed Hunter Kasuls to score. Later in the inning, Brenn Conrad sent one to left center field for a standup double that would score Brian Mills to put the Cajuns up 2-0.
McLemore cut the lead in half for the Mavs in the bottom half of the inning with a double to right field.
Conrad got another run across in the top of the third with a groundout to the second baseman that would allow Mills to score, making it 3-1.
The Mavs would proceed to get it within one in the bottom of the fifth with a single through the left side by Williams to get Minjarez across. Rohrbaugh would give them the lead later in the inning with a two run single through the left side.
But the Cajuns rallied back in the seventh inning when Kasuls hit a double to center field that would send Thurman home to knot things up at four runs apiece. Clement gave the Cajuns the lead back later in the inning with a double to right field. He would replicate that in the top of the 9th with another RBI double to put the game out of reach.
Eric Carter improved to 3-1 on the year throwing one and a third innings of relief, allowing no runs, two hits, and struck out one. Dylan Moore got his 11th save of the year with three shutout innings, allowing three hits, walking two, and fanning three batters.
The Cajuns (28-16, 13-7 SBC) will try to win the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
