It’s not often you see the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (35-6, 16-1 Sun Belt) put up 13 runs in the first inning. That should’ve been a sign that the Cajuns are head and shoulders above the Sun Belt as they wound up sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Georgia State (28-19, 13-7 Sun Belt).
In the first game, it was all Cajuns from the outset with DJ Sanders and Haley Hayden going back to back in the bottom of the first. The Cajuns weren’t done as they put up ten more runs in the frame to secure a 19-4 victory in five innings.
Macey Smith improved to 4-1 after coming in relief of Stewart in the second allowing two runs off of five hits, walking three, and struck out one in three innings of work.
The second game was a little bit closer, but the end result was similar. Hayden got the Cajuns on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Later in the inning, Lexie Comeaux got Sanders home safely with a sac fly to right field.
Sanders got her 27th home run of the season with a two-run blast to left center field in the third to make it 4-0. Comeaux put the final nail in with a three-run double in the fifth to give the Cajuns a 7-1 win.
Alex Stewart improved to 16-3 with a complete game. The senior allowed only one run in the game, two hits, walked one, and struck out two batters.
The Cajuns will look to sweep on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
