Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns kicker Tony Sterner has been named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The honor comes after Sterner made field goals of 51 and 47 yards for the Cajuns in a 14-12 loss to Rice on Saturday night in the newly renovated Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.
An Incarnate Word transfer, Sterner set a new career-high with the 51-yard make. He sat behind Lou Groza Award winner Kenny Almendares last season, making one field goal in the game against Grambling.
The Cajuns will be back in action on Saturday night inside Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium when they play host to the McNeese Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
