The Ragin Cajuns headed into San Marcos looking for a win to try and turn their fortunes around. It wasn’t pretty, but that’s exactly what they got against Texas State with a 27-3 score.
The Bobcats started things off with the ball and took it down into the Cajuns redzone but the defense was able to hold Texas State to a field goal from Marcus Ripley. The Cajuns started off their first drive on the wrong foot with a pick by Javante D’Roy, thankfully it was deep in Texas State’s territory and no damage was done as they punted it away. Jennings looked to get back into form on this drive, going 5-for-6 on the way to a 36-yard field goal from Stevie Artigue to get their first points since October 1st in the loss against New Mexico State.
The Cajuns continued to click with a nine play drive that was capped off with a short run from Eli McGuire to take a 10-3 lead. The Cajuns were able to get another field goal from Artigue as time expired in the first half to make it 13-3 as they headed into the locker room.
In almost a mirror image of the first half, Texas State was picked off by the returning Simeon Thomas near midfield which turned into seven more points on the board with Eli McGuire getting another touchdown from one yard out to make it 20-3.
The final nail in the coffin came in the fourth quarter when Jennings connected with Keenan Barnes for an 18-yard touchdown.
The Cajuns (3-4, 2-2 Sun Belt) will have the next week off before taking on Idaho (4-4, 2-2 Sun Belt) at home with kickoff set for 4 pm.
