Mother Nature may have been delaying the inevitable on Thursday night as the Ragin Cajuns took down the UL-Monroe Warhawks (20-33, 10-18 SBC) by the score of 8-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Warhawks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Nathan Reynolds scored off of a fielding error by the third baseman. That would be the only score on Thursday as play was stopped in the fifth due to severe weather in the area.
The Cajuns would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth when play resumed with an RBI double from Steven Sensley followed by a RBI single from Kennon Fontenot.
The Cajuns added to their lead with an offensive surge in the bottom of the sixth with five runs coming across, highlighted by a two-run shot to right field from Sensley. Nick Thurman would put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the eighth when he scored off of a passed ball.
Eric Carter got the win, improving to 4-2 on the year allowing one run off of two hits and struck out four in four and a third innings of relief work.
The Cajuns will try to sweep the doubleheader later tonight with first pitch slated for 6 pm.
