Day two of the 31st annual Louisiana Classics for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (4-0) was a little more difficult than the first day but the end result remained the same as they won both games.
The first game against DePaul started out slow with neither team getting much offense in. It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth when they Cajuns would score off of a sac fly from Jamie Landry that would send Kendall Smith home safely before Beth Ashley would be thrown out while trying to advance to home plate.
However, the lead wouldn’t last long as Alysia Rodriguez would send one just over the wall at left centerfield to tie things up. The Blue Demons would take a 2-1 lead in the sixth after Ana Griek would score after a fielding error.
After an RBI single from Jessica Cothern in the seventh put DePaul up 3-1, the Cajuns began to rally back in the bottom of the seventh. Things started off with an RBI double from Haley Hayden to cut the lead down to one run. Daniella Chavez would be the hero of the game with a walkoff two-run double to come away with the victory.
The second game started out all in favor of Ball State with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second to go up 3-0.
Kelli Martinez was able to capitalize off a fielder’s choice by Haley Hayden to put the Cajuns on the board in the top of the fifth.
The Cajuns would take the lead in the top of the sixth with four runs highlighted by Martinez hitting a two-run single down the left field line. However, the Cardinals would try and rally back with Morey scoring off of a fielding error to cut the lead down to one run.
DJ Sanders would finally put the game away in the seventh inning thanks to a two run blast in the top of the seventh.
The Cajuns close out the Louisiana Classics with a pair of games against Southern Miss with first pitch in game one set for 1 pm and the second is set for 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
