The Carencro Golden Bears now know their road to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in early December will be packed with potential landmines.
Is there any other way in the Louisiana Class 4A playoffs?
Carencro, seeded ninth, will open at home this Friday night versus 24-seed Salmen, which finished 5-4 overall and 1-3 in District 8-4A. With a win the Bears would advance to the round of 16 on November 18, either back in the Open Air Cro Dome versus area foe St. Martinville, seeded 25th, or on the road at eighth-seeded Loranger.
Navigate those obstacles and Carencro will almost certainly get a playoffs rematch with top-seeded and undefeated Neville. The two brand-name programs in the Pelican State met last November in north Louisiana. Depending on where the Bears play in round two, a quarterfinal showdown in 2016 could go down in Carencro.
Other noteworthy seeds in Class 4A: Edna Karr, second, and McDonogh #35, third, from New Orleans; Tioga, fourth; Minden, fifth; Woodlawn (Shreveport), sixth; and Rayne, seventh. Area teams Beau Chene, 15th; Breaux Bridge, 22nd; and Cecilia, 27th; are also in the final 32 teams standing in the classification.
Stay tuned to Mustang 107.1 for the duration of Carencro’s run through the playoffs.
