After Saturday’s doubleheader, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (7-2) needed to end the weekend on a positive note after some tough losses against Florida (8-1). If they wanted to get a win against the Gators, it would require a big performance from the pitching staff.
The Cajuns got that performance from Summer Ellyson as she went 11 innings to hold down Florida’s offense to give the Cajuns a fighting chance.
After a two-run single from Amanda Lorenz in the second, Alissa Dalton responded in a big way with a two-run single of her own to tie things up in the bottom of the third.
Things remained knotted up at two runs in the top of the 11th when Hannah Adams hit an RBI double out to center field to make it 3-2 for the Gators. However, Louisiana avoided getting swept at home when Casidy Chaumont blasted a two-run blast out to left center field to give them a 4-3 victory.
Ellyson improved to 3-0 on the year, pitching all 11 innings. The sophomore allowed three runs off of eight hits, struck out five, and walked six on the afternoon.
The Cajuns will return to action on Thursday when they take on Southeastern Louisiana (7-1) with first pitch set for 4 pm.
