Survive and advance. That’s all that matters once you get into tournament play and it’s clear that’s the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns mentality as they came away with a 5-2 win over Coastal Carolina after capitalizing on some mistakes in the middle innings.
How It Happened:
The Cajuns wasted little time getting on the board with Raina O’Neal hitting a groundout that resulted in Keeli Milligan getting across home plate. That didn’t last long though with Kassidy Smith drilling a two-run home run that just stayed fair and gave the Chanticleers a 2-1 lead.
Alissa Dalton made it a 3-2 ballgame when she hit a two-out, two-run single in the top of the fourth. The Cajuns put up another pair of runs in the fifth with a solo shot from Sarah Hudek and Milligan scoring off of a wild pitch to keep Coastal Carolina at bay.
Big Number: 4
Four errors wound up being huge in the end result, helping the Cajuns advance to the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Player of the Game: Summer Ellyson
Ellyson definitely deserved the honor, getting over that early two-run home run, striking out eight and only allowing three more hits for the rest of the ballgame.
