When change is needed, be it in football or in a business, the leader may need to be changed if you are not living up to the expectations. That’s exactly what happened last Sunday and the new leader for LSU had a solid debut with a 42-7 win over Mizzou.
LSU struck first with a lengthy nine-play drive that ended with a 42-yard run from Derrius Guice that featured some fancy footwork from the sophomore back to make it 7-0.
LSU sputtered out the next drive, but a pass from Mizzou QB Drew Lock that was caught by Tre’Davious White gave them new life. They had another lengthy drive that ended with Guice running up the gut.
After the defense forced Mizzou to punt Guice found paydirt yet again with a nice 37-yard run to make it 21-0 late in the first half and it would stay that way as both teams headed into the locker room.
One of the notable changes to an LSU team from the first four games to Saturday night was that they were wide awake in the second half, starting things off with a short drive that ended with a short run from Darrel Williams. Williams would get another TD in the fourth quarter to make it 35-0. This was the first time through five games that LSU scored in the fourth quarter.
Mizzou would finally get on the board on the next drive with a pass from Lock to Eric Laurent. But LSU would put the final nail on the next drive which was highlighted by a big run from Nick Brossette.
The Tigers (3-2, 2-1 SEC) will travel to Gainesville next Saturday to take on the Florida Gators (4-1, 2-1 SEC) with kickoff scheduled for 11 am.
