After Week 3, where both LSU and Louisiana put up dominating performances, both programs placed a player on the Player of the Week list for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and Louisiana linebacker Cameron Whitfield were named LSWA Players of the Week as well as Louisiana Christian’s Mason Ingram.
Daniels led LSU into their SEC opener on the road at Mississippi State and put on a masterclass. The senior quarterback completed 30-34 passes for a career-best 361 yards and two TDs in the Tigers’ 41-14 win. His completion percentage of 88.2 percent was a school record while connecting on his first 13 passes. Daniels accounted for four total TDs in the contest as he led the Tigers in rushing with 64 yards. LSU scored on seven of its first eight possessions with Daniels under center Saturday and had 530 total yards and 27 first downs in the game.
For the Ragin Cajuns, Cam Whitfield had a career night on the road in Birmingham at UAB. The redshirt sophomore from Houston had five tackles on the night, his first tackles of the 2023 season. He also registered his first career sack in the game and finished with five tackles and 2.5 sacks in a 41-21 win over UAB.
Mason Ingram of Louisiana Christian was named the Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging nearly 45 yards per punt in a win for the Wildcats.
