For most of the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (24-4, 14-1 Sun Belt) wins this season they’ve been able to win handily and have things in control early in the first half. However, the South Alabama Jags (14-14, 7-8 Sun Belt) hung around for much of the ballgame. It wasn’t enough to dethrone the kings of the Sun Belt Conference as the Cajuns pulled away thanks to 20 points from Jerekius Davis and came away with an 88-71 win over the Jags.
After an early back and forth, the Cajuns were able to get up by as much as eight points with 11:55 left in the first half. However, South Alabama fought back late in the half to take a three-point lead, but Malik Marquetti gave the Cajuns a two-point lead at the break with a three-pointer as time expired.
South Alabama kept it competitive for the beginning of the second half, but Louisiana started to pull away, going on a 17-0 run. Frank Bartley put the game away with 2:58 left courtesy of a jumper.
The Cajuns will host Arkansas State (10-18, 5-10 Sun Belt) on Thursday with tipoff set for 7:15 pm.
