The New Orleans Saints announced their newest members of the Saints Hall of Fame on Thursday afternoon as legendary quarterback Drew Brees will be inducted in the 2024 class.
Doug Moreau received the Joe Gemelli “Fleur-de-Lis” Award for his contributions to the organization.
Brees spent 15 seasons in New Orleans from 2006-2020, winning 142 games as the signal caller alongside Sean Payton, who brought the only Super Bowl in history to the franchise in 2009. Brees was an influential piece of the franchise’s success and a shining light in the community during a time of tragedy.
“It’s always always great to be back in this building,” Brees said. “My wife Brittany and I were embraced by the city by this organization. By mrs. Benson and by the unbelievable staff that you know, it’s so great to just I think see the consistency you know, throughout this building, so many familiar faces so many people that have been such a huge part of the success around here not just on the field but off the field and in the community.”
“This is a tremendous honor.”
Brees arrived after Hurricane Katrina and felt drawn to the city during its darkest time, helping New Orleans out of the darkness and into its golden era with the Saints. During his 15 seasons, the Saints made the playoffs nine of the 15 seasons, making three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl.
While in New Orleans, Brees threw for 68,010 yards, 491 touchdowns, and 190 interceptions. He had a completion percentage of 68.8% and threw for a then-record 5,476 yards in 2011 (Peyton Manning passed this by one yard). He currently is 2nd in the NFL record books for career passing yards, and career touchdowns behind Tom Brady. He still holds the record for consecutive games with a touchdown (52) and is the only player to have multiple 5,000-yard seasons.
Brees is a 13-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl XLIV MVP, and a two-time Offensive Player of the Year in the NFL. He also carries the highest completion percentage in NFL history for a career at 67.7%.
