Fields Lifts Cajuns Past Texas State

Posted by clintdomingue on March 9, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns women’s basketball team has been up against the ropes in their two matchups in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament this week. However, they’ve never gave up in either game and were able to get the 66-64 win in the final seconds over Texas State.

The first quarter saw the Bobcats take over after the Cajuns took an early lead. Texas State held all the momentum after the first ten minutes and continued to dominate into the second quarter.

The Bobcats were up by as much as 12 points with 2:42 left in the first half, but the Cajuns finished out the first half strong, getting the deficit down to nine points as both teams headed into the locker room.

It seemed like as the third quarter was getting underway as they went up by 15 points with eight minutes to go. However, the Cajuns fought back to take the lead as both teams pushed towards the final quarter.

The Cajuns held on for dear life and Texas State tied things up with a three-pointer by Kaitlin Walla with four seconds to go. The Cajuns were able to get across the court with Simone Fields to take the lead back with two seconds to go and was followed by Jaylyn Gordon stealing the ball as time expired.

The Cajuns will now take on the top-seeded Little Rock on Saturday with tipoff set for 5 pm.

By the Numbers:

4: Number of Cajuns that put up double digits in the victory. Four of the starting five were able to get things done on Thursday afternoon, with senior Jaylyn Gordon leading the way with 17 points.

17: Number of turnovers for Texas State. The Cajuns were able to dominate on this aspect of the game and that may have been the key for the Cajuns win.

38: Number of points in the paint for the Cajuns.
