It’s not often you see Jared Poche give up runs like he did on Saturday afternoon. However, the bats for the Florida Gators (16-8, 2-3 SEC) were just too much for the LSU Tigers (17-7, 3-2 SEC) by the score of 8-1.
The Gators got on the board in the second inning after Christian Hicks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Nelson Maldonado increased their lead in the third with an RBI single.
The Tigers got their lone run in the top of the fourth with Josh Smith grounding out to the second baseman and that gave Antoine Duplantis a chance to reach home safely.
The Gators increased their lead later in the game with a pair of RBI doubles from Maldonado and Mike Rivera in the fifth and seventh innings respectively.
The final nail would be put in by the Gators with three runs in the eighth.
Poche dropped to 5-1 on the year with three earned runs off of six hits, walked four, and struck out two in four innings of work.
The Tigers will be looking to avoid the sweep on Sunday with first pitch set for 12 pm.
