Four LSU Stars on Active Rosters for MLB Division Series Matchups

Posted by Raymond Partsch III on October 2, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Houston Astros, Latest News, LSU Tigers, RP3's Blogs

BATON ROUGE – The 2019 Major League Baseball postseason will have a very Baton Rouge feel to it.

A total of four former LSU baseball players will begin the MLB Division Series on active playoff rosters. Those four includes New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman and right-handed pitcher Will Harris and Washington Nationals outfielder Andrew Stevenson.

LeMahieu, a three-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove recipient, batted .327 (197-for-602) during the regular season with 26 homers, 102 RBI and 109 runs scored.

Bregman hit .296 (164-for-554) in the regular season for the Astros with 37 doubles, two triples, 41 homers, 112 RBI and 122 runs and is considered a strong candidate for AL MVP. The two-time All-Star, and 2018 All-Star Game MVP, was third in the AL in home runs this season.

Harris, a 2016 AL All-Star, has made 68 appearances this season out of the Astros’ bullpen, recording a 4-1 mark with a 1.50 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 60 innings.

Stevenson has appeared in 31 games this season for the Nationals, batting .367. He scored the tying run Tuesday night as a pinch runner in the eighth inning during Washington’s three-run rally, as the Nationals erased a 3-1 deficit and posted a 4-3 Wild Card game victory over Milwaukee.

The Astros open an AL Division Series on Friday in Houston against the Tampa Bay Rays who defeated the Oakland A’s 5-1 on Wednesday night in the AL Wild Card game. Games 1 and 2 of the ALDS can be heard live on 103.7 The Game on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for Friday’s game is 1:05 p.m. and Saturday’s game will start at 8:07 p.m.

The Yankees begin an ALDS on Friday in New York against the Minnesota Twins, while Washington will meet the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of their NLDS matchup on Thursday in Los Angeles.
