With the regular season in the books, Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole earned one more award headed into the postseason on Monday and that was being named AL Pitcher of the Month for September.
This marks the third time this season Cole has received the American League Pitcher of the Month Award. The former Pittsburgh Pirate is coming off of his best month with a 5-0 record in September, a 1.07 ERA, and a whopping 74 strikeouts. He also set a Major League record Sunday, collecting double-digit K’s in his ninth consecutive start.
The right-hander also was named AL Pitcher of the Week after only giving up one run in two starts and striking out 24.
The Houston Astros will start their postseason run on Friday when they take on the winner of the AL Wild Card Matchup between the Oakland A’s and the Tampa Bay Rays. Times for the American League Divison Series are to be announced.
