Gleyber Torres Lifts Yankees to 7-0 Win in ALCS Game 1

It was a big evening for Gleyber Torres on Saturday night with the 22-year-old dominating at the dish in game one of the ALCS for the New York Yankees on the way to a 7-0 victory over the Houston Astros.

How It Happened

After both offenses failed to score in the first three innings, Torres opened things up in the top of the fourth with a line-drive double that scored former LSU Tiger DJ LeMahieu to get the Yankees on the board. Torres followed that up with his next at-bat in the sixth with a solo shot to left field to make it 2-0.

Later in the inning, Giancarlo Stanton sent one sailing out to center field to put an end to Zack Grienke’s evening. A throwing error by George Springer in the seventh off of a Torres fly ball got two more runs across.

The door was slammed shut in the 9th when Gio Urshela blasted a solo shot out to right field.

Big Number: 13

The Yankees starting nine was outstanding on Saturday night, racking up 13 hits on the evening. Add the fact that they teed off on Grienke in the middle innings was huge for their success.

Player of the Game: Gleyber Torres

In the same game where Masato Tanaka allowed only one hit in six innings of work, it required someone to put together a career game to take the title of player of the game from him. That’s exactly what we saw from Torres, going three-of-five and five RBIs. Nothing short of spectacular.

Next Up: ALCS Game Two; First Pitch 7:07 pm
