The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had a great weekend against Coastal Carolina, shutting down one of the best offenses in the conference for the first two ballgames. However, that was undone by a poor showing on Sunday.
With that in mind, let’s take a look back at the weekend that was for the Cajuns.
Offense: B
The Cajuns offense looked slightly better this weekend, hitting .285 with six extra base hits to boot. The Cajuns offense continues to impress in the second half of the season.
Infield Defense: C
The infield committed all three of the team’s errors on Friday but some of those were inconsequential. Their grade was bumped up because of some solid defensive plays including an impressive double play by Hunter Kasuls. It was a typical weekend for the Cajuns infield defense.
Outfield Defense: C
The outfield looked good in spots, but it was relatively ho-hum for the Cajuns outfield.
Weekend Rotation: B+
If not for Jack Burk being pulled after one and a third, the weekend rotation could have been graded out as an A. Allowing only two runs against a team that’s averaged a little over eight runs per game is quite impressive. However, the Sunday starting spot is still very much up for debate.
Bullpen: C-
The bullpen was dragged down by a pair of poor performances, but none were more disheartening than Michael Leaumont allowing five runs, three of which were earned without recording an out. It forced Nick Lee to come out in the ninth to put out the proverbial fire. That really hurt the overall grade for the Cajuns.
Overall Grade: C+
