Houston Astros MLB Draft Day Two Tracker

Day two of the 2021 MLB Draft is officially underway and the Houston Astros finally began to select players to join their farm system after having their first and second-round picks taken away following the cheating scandal.

Here are the Astros draft picks from the second day of the MLB Draft. This will be updated frequently so make sure to refresh for the latest.

3rd Round (87th Overall) Tyler Whitaker, OF, Bishop Gorman HS)

Initially a shortstop, Whitaker moved to third for Bishop Gorman and then to an outfield corner as an upperclassman. He is ranked according to Perfect Game as the top-rated player from the state of Nevada and 15th best outfielder in the country.

4th Round (117th Overall) Alex Ulloa, SS, Calvary Christian Academy

With the 117th pick, the @Astros select Calvary Christian Academy (FL) SS Alex Ulloa, No. 165 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

One of the top high school shortstops from the state of Florida, Ulloa is a great defensive infielder while also being a top-level hitter with tremendous bat speed. Ulloa is currently committed to Oklahoma State, but is expected to sign.

4th Round (127th Overall) Chayce McDermott, RHP, Ball State

With the 132nd pick, the @Astros select @BallStateBB right-hander Chayce McDermott, No. 127 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

A second-team All-MAC selection, McDermott is coming off of a solid redshirt sophomore season where he went 8-2 with a 3.05 ERA and finished the regular season fifth in the nation with 125 strikeouts.

5th Round (148th Overall), Quincy Hamilton, OF, Wright State University

Hamilton was impressive in his redshirt junior season for the Raiders, batting .374 with 18 doubles, four triples, and 15 home runs. The Centerville, Ohio native was named to DI Baseball Top 100 Hitters List, coming in at number one.

6th Round (178th Overall) Spencer Arighetti, RHP, Louisiana

The Astros drafted the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns ace from this past season with their sixth-round pick. Arrighetti transferred to the program from TCU and made an immediate impact for the Vermillion and White, going 6-1 and a save to start the 2021 season. He ended his career for Louisiana with a 7-6 record and a 3.12 ERA.

7th Round (208th Overall) Joey Loperfido, OF, Duke

The Blue Devils’ Swiss army knife is headed to H-Town. Loperfido played infield during his first two seasons and the last two he spent in the outfield. The second-team All-ACC outfielder led the team in batting average (.374) and on-base percentage (.473).

8th Round (238th Overall) Colton Gordon, LHP, Central Florida

Gordon had his 2021 season come to a sudden end after having to undergo Tommy John surgery in May. The Florida native went 5-2 and had a 2.77 ERA. His final appearance for the Knights saw him throw seven shutout innings and striking out seven.

9th Round (268th Overall) Aaron Brown, RHP, Middle Tennessee State

A second-team All-Conference USA pitcher, Brown went 7-5 in his junior season with a 3.99 ERA. He also tallied an impressive 113 strikeouts, which was good enough to be tied for 25th in the country.

10th Round (298th Overall) Michael Sandle, OF, South Alabama

The Astros wrapped up day two getting another Sun Belt Conference player in South Alabama’s Sandle. He’s coming off of a season where he batted .313 and crushed 11 home runs for the Jaguars.
