The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (21-4, 11-1 Sun Belt) needed to get over the tough loss on Thursday night in quick fashion and avoid the Statesboro blues on Saturday afternoon against Georgia Southern (16-10, 7-6 Sun Belt). Jonathan Stove was the catalyst for the Cajuns performance with 28 points en route to a 102-91 victory to split the Peach State Swing.
The Eagles started out strong with a 6-0 run over the first two minutes of action, but it doesn’t last long as the Cajuns were able to respond early and take a five point lead with 13:57 until halftime. Georgia Southern fought back late in the first half, but a 15-2 run by the Cajuns to end the half got them out to a 14-point lead as both teams headed to the locker room.
Stove came alive in the second half, scoring 18 of his 26 points in the final twenty minutes. That second half was a big part of the Cajuns holding onto a double digit lead for much of the second half that saw Frank Bartley put the game out of reach courtesy of a three-pointer with 8:38 left in regulation.
The Cajuns will return to the Cajundome on Thursday when they take on the South Alabama Jaguars (13-12, 6-6 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 7:05 pm.
