Louisiana Can’t Overcome Slow Start in Loss to Georgia Southern

Posted by clintdomingue on February 6, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (13-10, 4-6 Sun Belt) haven’t been their normal selves the last few ballgames and returning home on Wednesday night was another slow start en route to a 103-86 loss to Georgia Southern (14-9, 6-4 Sun Belt).

How It Happened:

After an early back-and-forth, the Eagles started to get hot from the field going on a 13-2 run to take a commanding lead with 14:32 left in the first half. The Cajuns tried to chip away at the lead, but were really unable to make a dent with some solid shooting from three in the first half by Georgia Southern, shooting 62.5% and that was more than enough to help them take a 50-38 lead into the locker room.

It was more of the same in the second half with the Eagles quickly increasing their lead to 22 points with 15:30 left in regulation. From that point on, the Cajuns poor shooting on the evening wound up being their downfall in a 17-point loss.

Big Number: 9

The three-point shooting for the Cajuns as of late has been something that many can’t ignore and Wednesday night was no exception, making only nine shots from beyond the arc out of 23 attempts. This team has been living and dying by the three for quite some time and it is really coming back to bite them during the most crucial point of the season.

Player of the Game: Tookie Brown

Georgia Southern’s star player feasted on the Cajuns defense with 32 points, seven boards, and four assists on the evening. Brown has been a high point for the Eagles program for quite some time and what he did on Wednesday night was a big reason why he’s been a vital part of their starting five.

Next Up: Friday vs Georgia State; Tipoff at 8 pm
