The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (8-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) haven’t had things go their way on Sundays as of late. The rubber match between the Cajuns and Georgia Southern (9-11, 2-1 Sun Belt) was another example of that, falling 5-4 after a big sixth inning for the Eagles.
Hayden Cantrelle put the Cajuns up 2-0 in the top of the first with a two-run single up the middle. Georgia Southern responded in the bottom of the second when Blake Simmons connected with an RBI single up the middle to score Christian Avant, making it 2-1.
Kennon Fontenot gave Louisiana an insurance run in the top of the third off of a sac bunt and Cantrelle made it 4-1 with an RBI single out to right field.
After a solid four innings from Colton Schmidt, Hogan Harris made his return from injury in the fifth inning. He was able to get a lot of velocity in the fifth, but things started to come apart for the junior with Chandler Corley hitting an RBI ground-rule double by Chandler Corley. After an RBI single from Simmons, Harris hit Steven Curry and walked Jason Swan with the bases loaded before being pulled by Tony Robichaux.
Harris dropped to 0-1 on the season allowing four runs off of two hits, walked four, and struck out two in one and two-thirds of an inning of work.
The Cajuns will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Lake Charles to take on McNeese State (8-11) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
