Louisiana Completes Sweep of UL Monroe

Posted by clintdomingue on May 19, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (33-23, 18-12 Sun Belt) wasted very little time on Saturday getting out in front. In fact, they were able to give Nick Lee some run support early on and it helped them complete the series sweep winning 7-2 over UL Monroe (23-31, 10-20 Sun Belt).

How It Happened

After a leadoff ground-rule double by Hayden Cantrelle, Gavin Bourgeois reached on a bunt but a throwing error by the first baseman resulted in a run scoring and Bourgeois advancing to third. The Cajuns got three more runs across in the first, capped off by an RBI triple from the red-hot Todd Lott.

The Cajuns went up 5-0 in the second when Gavin Bourgeois hit a sac fly out to right field, scoring Jonathan Windham. Cantrelle got his third home run of the series in the bottom of the fifth to start out the inning, making it 6-0. Kennon Fontenot officially slammed the door shut later in the inning with a two-out RBI single out to left center.

The Warhawks tried to get something going in the sixth when Gino Marucci hit a two-run double down the left field line, but that was all they could muster on Saturday afternoon.

Nick Lee improved to 3-6 on the season allowing two runs off of eight hits and struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Big Number: 25

It’s always impressive to get a series sweep. However, it’s incredible to see the Cajuns put up 25 straight victories against UL Monroe. That’s flat-out dominance against an in-state rival.

Player of the Game: Nick Lee

It’s almost too easy to give it to Hayden Cantrelle, who went three-for-three. Nick Lee had his best game all season allowing only two runs off of eight hits and struck out seven. It wasn’t pretty, but it sure was impressive.

Next Up: Sun Belt Tournament
