After a strong first three innings, it seemed like the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (24-20, 10-9 Sun Belt) were going to coast to a win against Georgia State (21-20, 7-11 Sun Belt). However, the Panthers rallied back late in the ballgame and were able to come away with a 6-5 victory in 12 innings.
How It Happened
The Cajuns wasted little time getting on the board, getting a pair of runs in the first with a two-run single right up the middle from Kennon Fontenot. Gavin Bourgeois followed that up in the top of the second with a two-run double down the left field line to make it 4-0.
Fontenot put the Cajuns up 5-0 in the third with a leadoff blast out to left field. However, Louisiana’s bats went silent from that point on and that let Georgia State get right back into the thick of things with an RBI single in the sixth from Kendall Ford. Later in the inning, Nick Gatewood got the Panthers within a run after a three-run blast out to right center.
The power hitting continued in the eighth with Justin Jones hit one out to left field to even things up at five. Jones gave them the win in the bottom of the 12th with a bunt to third base to score Luke Leonard.
Nick Lee dropped to 1-5 on the season allowing two runs off of four hits, walked three, and struck out four on the evening.
