It wasn’t an easy first half on Thursday night when the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (18-3, 8-0 Sun Belt) hosted the South Alabama Jaguars (11-10, 4-4 Sun Belt), but they were able to go wire-to-wire and come away with a 76-57 victory.
The Cajuns came out of the gates very strong with a 12-2 run before the first media timeout. The Jaguars fought back and were able to tie things up with 3:28 left in the first half with a 12-0 run, but weren’t able to get over the hump with the Cajuns defense stepping up and making it a 34-29 ballgame headed into the break.
The second half started out in the Cajuns favor, scoring at will and really began to pull away after a three-pointer from Malik Marquetti that put them up by 19 points with 7:43 left in the ballgame. The final nail was put in by Larenz Stalcup with a late jumper to put them up by 21 with six seconds left.
The Cajuns will host the Troy Trojans (9-12, 3-5 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 2 pm.
