When you start off as hot as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (23-4, 13-1 Sun Belt) did on Saturday night, it should be a relatively easy win. UT Arlington (16-12. 7-8 Sun Belt) got it close early, but the Cajuns were too much and came away with a 95-71 victory.
Right out of the gate, the Cajuns went three-for-three from beyond the arc and got out in front of the Mavericks 16-6 after the first media timeout. The Mavs fired back with a 7-0 run after the timeout, but it wasn’t enough to get the lead as Louisiana stayed hot as the first half progressed and headed into the break up by 14.
The second half started for the Cajuns very much the same with a 9-2 run early to get up by 23 with 18:09 left in regulation. The hot streak for the Cajuns kept going, especially for Frank Bartley getting 11 of his 25 in the second half. Jerekeius Davis put the final nail in the Mavericks’ coffin with a three-pointer with 3:10 left.
The Cajuns will return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on Troy (13-14, 7-7 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 7:15 pm.
