After a strong start to the series on Friday night, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (6-8) took a couple of steps back in a 4-1 loss to Loyola Marymount (7-7).
How It Happened:
Nick Sogard got the Lions out in front in the top of the third with an RBI single up the middle followed up by a triple out to right center field by Cooper Uhl to give them an early 2-0 lead. The Cajuns seemed to get something going in the bottom of the fifth when Orynn Veillon led off the inning with a triple out to left center field. Sebastian Toro got him across with a groundout to Sogard and that was all they could muster up in the fifth despite having Todd Lott at second after a one-out single.
The score remained 2-1 until the top of the ninth when Sogard found paydirt yet again with a one-out single to score Alex Lambeau. Loyola Marymount put the final touches on a win with a single by Brandon Shearer to get the Lions shortstop home safely.
Big Number: 3
The Cajuns base running on Saturday was far from what the fans wanted to see, with three players caught stealing. This was a far cry from last night when they were 2-for-2 on stolen base opportunities.
Player of the Game: Nick Sogard
Sogard looked outstanding in the win with both of his hits accounting for runs. The leadoff hitter for the Lions showed how important his role is on the team with that performance.
