The second day of the Mardi Gras invitational was very similar to the first day as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (9-3) were able to dominate Dartmouth (0-2) on Friday by the score of 12-5.
The Cajuns got things started with a pair of sacrifice flies to take an early 2-0 lead. Haley Hayden busted things wide open though in the third inning with a three-run blast to left field to make it 5-0.
Dartmouth would finally get on the board in the bottom of the third with Alyssa Jorgensen hitting an RBI single that would score Claire Bird. Beth Ashley got her 2nd RBI of the game with a single to second base that scored Hayden in the top of the fourth. However, in the bottom half of that inning, Chloe Madill sent one flying to center field to score two more runs making it a 7-3 deficit.
The Big Green got two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with a double from Karen Chaw to cut the deficit down to two runs.
However, the Cajuns would shut it down in the seventh inning with five runs highlighted by Daniella Chavez hitting a three run double to left center field to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Summer Ellyson got her first collegiate win allowing five runs off of eight hits and struck out six batters in four and two-thirds innings of work. Maci Smith got her first save of the season with two and a third innings of work where she did not allow a hit and struck out two batters.
The Cajuns will next play Maryland (1-10) on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 3 pm.
