Georgia State (10-7, 3-2 SBC) was able to get in control early on Monday night and it they never let go as they came away with a 101-86 win over the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-6, 2-3 SBC).
After an early exchange of the lead, Georgia State got out in front with a 10-2 run and had a 17-9 lead with 15:29 remaining in the first half. The Cajuns kept it competitive for most of the first half until they were able to go on another solid run that would put them comfortably in the lead at halftime up 53-42.
The second half began much like the first ended with Georgia State establishing dominance as they got out to a 22 point lead with 12:54 left in the game. The Cajuns would get the lead back down to as low as 11 points, but the Panthers would hang on to come away with a big win on the road.
The Cajuns will try and snap the two-game skid on the road when they travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State on Saturday with tipoff set for 4:30 pm.
By the Numbers:
50: Number of personal fouls between the two teams. It was another game that got chippy and that was obvious with a midcourt argument before the opening tip.
24: Number of points scored by both D’Marcus Simonds and Isaiah Williams in the win. Both players led the Panthers and ended their night with a combined seven boards and six assists.
36: Number of rebounds the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had on the night. They wound up out-rebounding Georgia State by eight, but were beaten on the defensive side of it by two.
