Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Survive Shootout Against McNeese

After the sixth inning, it felt like the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (5-7) were about to cruise to a win over the McNeese State Cowboys (8-5). However, nothing is ever easy and McNeese State was able to get within two runs headed into the eighth inning, but couldn’t get the job done, falling to the Cajuns 16-10.

How It Happened:

The Ragin Cajuns struck early and often, getting a run in each of the first two innings before Orynn Veillon drilled one out to left field for a three-run home run in the third inning to give them a 5-0 lead. The Cowboys would respond though in the bottom frame with an RBI double from Shane Selman to cut the lead down to 5-1.

Veillon found paydirt yet again in the fifth inning with an RBI single through the left side to make it a five-run ballgame yet again. Things were really busted open though in the sixth after Brennan Breaux lifted a three-run home run out to left field to make it an 11-1 ballgame.

Things turned sour real quick when McNeese State put up seven runs in the bottom frame to make it 11-9. Things got a little dicier in the bottom of the eighth when Dickerson hit an RBI single up the middle to make a 12-10 game. However, Brennan Breaux slammed the door shut with a three-run blast of his own to put the game out of reach yet again.

Big Number: 10

The Cajuns had a 10 run lead headed into the bottom of the sixth before Blake Schultz was pulled. From that point on, the Cowboys bridged that gap and it took a whopping five pitchers to get out of the inning without any more damage inflicted.

Player of the Game: Brennan Breaux

The former LSU Tiger showed just how good he can be at the plate on Wednesday night with three hits and five RBIs. Just an impressive outing for Breaux in what was a dominant offensive performance from the Cajuns.
