The University of Louisiana football team announced on Monday they will honor late assistant coach D.J. Looney for this week’s matchup against the UAB Blazers.
Louisiana will wear “Looney” on the back of their game jerseys when they take on UAB this Friday night at 7 p.m.
Looney died on Aug. 1 after a heart attack during a team workout. He was entering his third season with the Ragin’ Cajuns football program.
Before his time with Louisiana, Looney was a graduate assistant for Mississippi State in the 2011 season. He was also with Mississippi Community College in 2012-13, Central Arkansas from 2014-16 and Georgia in 2016.
Looney returned to his alma mater in 2017 to coach the tight ends.
