The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (2-0) started off the 2017 season on the right note with the Cajuns taking both of their games by the score of 9-1.
The Cajuns started things off taking on DePaul in their first game in the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics. True freshman Beth Ashley got her career as a Ragin Cajun started in the best possible way with a two-run blast to center field to put the Cajuns up 2-0 in the top of the second.
Haley Hayden kept the scoring going in the third inning with an RBI double to left center field that would score Kara Gremillion. DePaul would finally cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with Sabrina Kuchta hitting a double to right center field and Erin Andris would score thanks to a throwing error.
This would not last long though as the Cajuns responded in the sixth with six runs that was punctuated by Aleah Craighton scoring off of a groundout by Daniella Chavez to secure their first win of the year.
The Cajuns next game against Iowa State was much of the same with Gremillion scoring off a sac fly from DJ Sanders. However, the Cyclones tied things up off of a fielding error in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cajuns would quickly respond with Hayden being walked in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded to send Jamie Landry home. The game would continue to be all Cajuns in the sixth inning as they scored three more runs, highlighted by Craighton going yard for two runs.
It would wrap up with the Cajuns scoring four more runs in the sixth inning and was punctuated by two runs off of a fielding error.
Alex Stewart and Alyssa Denham both started out 1-0 with a pair of complete game victories.
The Cajuns will have another doubleheader on Saturday when they take on DePaul (0-2) with first pitch set for 2 pm and Ball State (1-1) at 4:30 pm.
